Are you skipping? Do you catch yourself with smile on your face for no apparent reason? Can you drink your cup of coffee without interruption? I know I have noticed all of these things since Monday was Back-to-School day for my kids. Don't get me wrong, or write to me telling me what a bad mother I am, I adore my children. Miss them when they are gone but I am relishing in the time I have to myself so I can think and get things done without interruption. After the kids get on the bus I have time to sit with my coffee and really plan my day as well as list some areas of the house that have been overlooked all summer. Now is the time to get organized! Go through closets, drawers, rooms. Rework pantries, the garage and/or your master closet. If this doesn't excite you, get you juiced, then you are probably normal. I, on the other hand, get such satisfaction out of leaving a space knowing it is in order. I am almost peaceful and feel like I really did something for myself. Instead of letting that cluttered space drain you of your energy every time you walk by, conquer it and go about your day feeling accomplished and happy. If that is not your thing, or those cluttered spaces are too overwhelming, then just give me a call and I will help you take the first steps to getting your things in order then you will by skipping, smiling for an apparent reason and it won't only be because the kids are back in school!

Look what 3 hours of organizing can produce. This closet is functional once again. See my home page and follow my 10 steps to getting organized. If you don't have time to read all ten follow these quick tips for getting your closet organized:
1 - use the same type of hanger, I like the flat velvet covered kind. These allow everything to hang at the same level, lay flatter and line up neater.
2 - Donate anything you have not worn in an entire year and that does not fit anymore. If you haven't picked it to wear there in that time then there is usually a reason, doesn't fit right, wrong color, etc. And, stop waiting for those last ten pounds to come off. You will feel lighter just giving up that notion and buying clothes that look beautiful on you right now just as you are.
3 - Put seasonal items together and like colors within those seasons together. This tip makes it easier to put your outfits together and allows you to see how many of one item you have actually purchased over the years without even realizing it.
Although this basement is still a work in progress, it is also a testament to how much can be accomplished when you have a supportive and efficient organizer helping you sort through a lifetime of memories, collectibles, paperwork and (let's be honest) some junk, that seem too hard to let go of or too overwhelming a task to take on alone!
Instead of allowing that messy space drain you of your positive energy every time you walk by it call me. We will discuss your project, figure out a plan of action, estimate a timeline for completion and then pencil in a date to get started. It is that easy and once your "things" are not emotionally or physically holding you hostage anymore you will feel relieved, free, lighter, accomplished and proud!
It can be overwhelming sorting through years worth of half empty paint cans and other accumulated house project materials but it feels oh so good once the organizing is done and you can find everything quickly and easily. Suggestion, when storing leftover paint, be sure to dab some of the color on the top of the can, next to the mixture contents, then write in permanent marker what area/wall of your house it was used on. This makes for easy reference if or when you need to do touchups or apply a fresh coat of paint. Go one step further and have a master list stored on your computer so you do not need to hunt for or stack and unstack paint cans to find the necessary information. Also, remember to always "house" like products together consistently in your home so you always know where to go when looking for something (ex, all paint in the basement storage area or on the floor of a closet). This helps make your life run more efficiently which allows you more time to have fun.
Note: Most cities consider paint waste to be hazardous material and require special handling for disposing of it. Call your city or township's sanitation department for instruction on how to properly dispose of your unused paint and other hazardous materials. Consider donating any unused material to Habitat for Humanity, a local place of worship, or other nonprofits to see if they could use it for an upcoming project.

Pinterest is my favorite place to go to get new ideas. It is such a great resource for all things creative. Follow my boards for organizing solutions posted by me and other wonderful members. The biggest response I hear when I tell someone what I do is, "I would love to use an organizer but I am too embarrassed to let you in my house to see my mess." I have seen a lot and nothing has scared me off yet! I love to come into a space and see past the clutter and show the homeowner the potential of their space. With a few minor tweaks and techniques I am able to turn their chaos and clutter into an organized and functional space. I work with my clients, consider their lifestyle, then put in place a system that will work for them long after I have finished my job. Your clutter is always kept in confidence. So put your embarrassment aside and let's begin the process of simplifying and organizing so you can feel free from your clutter and get back to the fun of living.
